FAQs

-How do I make an appointment?

You can email me at anna@dresdowcounseling.com.

You may also call me at 980-349-6244. I try to answer my phone whenever possible; if I don’t answer, that means I am in session or away from the phone. If you leave a call back number, I’ll return your call as soon as possible.

-What should I expect in the first appointment?

When you schedule the first appointment, you will be sent the forms to complete online. You will receive a link before your first appointment to join virtually. The first session can take up to one and a half hours and gathers information about what brought you to therapy. This also provides an opportunity for both of us to see if we are a good fit. It is important that you feel safe and comfortable talking with your therapist; if for any reason you do not feel comfortable, I am happy to help you find a therapist that would fit your requests. This session ends with establishing goals that you would like to accomplish during our sessions so that you get the most out of your time and money.

-How long are sessions?

The first session is up to an hour and a half because I need time to get to know you and gather information about your concerns. After the initial, sessions are 45-55 minutes long.

-How often do I attend therapy?

Most clients start by attending once a week. As symptoms decrease and less intensive therapy is needed, sessions taper down to every other week or once a month.

-Are counseling sessions confidential?

Yes. It is important that you can trust what you share in session is private. The only times I am mandated to break confidentiality is if you are at risk of seriously harming yourself or someone else, if there is child or elder abuse, or I am subpoenaed by a court judge. Any other disclosure of your information requires your written permission.

-Do you take insurance?

Yes. I am paneled as an in-network provider with most insurance panels. Please see the Rates tab for more information. I also have a self-pay fee for those without insurance or who do not want to use insurance.

It is important to be informed of the risks involved when you use insurance to help pay for counseling. Insurance will not pay unless you are diagnosed with a mental health disorder. Some people come to therapy for a relationship challenge or other issue that does not meet criteria for a diagnosis.  If a diagnosis is met, this becomes part of your insurance record and is no longer confidential to our counseling session. If you have any concerns regarding this, I would be happy to speak to you and would recommend using the self-pay rate so that information is not sent to your insurance company.

-What if I need to cancel my appointment?

Please contact me by phone or email at least 24 hours in advance so that I can offer this to a client waiting for an appointment time. Appointments that are cancelled less than 24 hours in advance or not shown up for will be charged a $50 fee.
